Market Summary

Jackson Hole Keeps Markets Cautious: Wall Street futures edged lower as the initial enthusiasm following Nvidia’s bullish outlook faded. Nasdaq 100 futures are down 0.3% this morning, while the KOSPI fell 1.6% overnight. Investors are avoiding large positions ahead of Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech, which could provide clues about the path of interest rates. Markets are watching for a potentially hawkish tone from Warsh and seeking clarity on how the Fed will balance persistent inflation against a cooling economy. A lack of clear guidance could add to volatility in longer-dated Treasuries and equities, particularly as concerns about elevated AI spending persist.

Bond Yields Remain Elevated: The US 10-year yield is around 4.68% as traders assess the outlook for monetary policy. The recent rise in long-term yields could continue if Warsh fails to provide a clear framework for the Fed’s response to inflation.

Yen Holds Near 159: The yen hovered around 159.40 per dollar after Tokyo’s key inflation gauge accelerated for a third consecutive month. Investors are also awaiting data from Japan’s Finance Ministry on currency intervention, while weaker demand at a two-year government bond auction has reinforced expectations of further central bank tightening.

Gold Slips Below $4,600: Gold has fallen 0.53% this morning to around $4,577 an ounce, giving back some of its recent gains as investors await signals from the Federal Reserve.

Bitcoin Pulls Back After $81,400 High as Oil Edges Lower: Bitcoin has slipped 0.33% to around $79,888 after briefly reaching $81,400 this morning. Brent crude is down 0.56% at around $89.30 a barrel, despite fresh hurdles in diplomatic efforts to secure an agreement over the Strait of Hormuz.
