Market Commentary: Tuesday 10th June

Markets are mixed, with indices and crypto turning lower in recent hours as US–China negotiations are set to resume later today. Speculation suggests the talks haven’t gone well thus far.

 

 

Markets are mixed, with indices and crypto turning lower in recent hours as US–China negotiations are set to resume later today. Speculation suggests the talks haven’t gone well thus far.

Discussions remain focused on technology shipments and rare earth elements. The USD gained 0.1%, but performance was mixed across currency pairs.

President Trump is scheduled to speak at 4 p.m. US time, but otherwise it’s a light day for scheduled releases.

The key focus this week is US CPI on Wednesday, which will be the most important data point for markets ahead of the June 18 interest rate decision.

In Japan, Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda said the central bank is still some distance from its inflation goal, while also downplaying the likelihood of any rate cut.

  • Spot gold fell 0.3% to $3,315.20

  • Crude rose 0.2% to $65.40 a barrel

  • Bitcoin rose 0.6% to $109,400.59

  • Ether rose 3.2% to $2,673.69
